Most people who want to get a tattoo consider the area of the body where they would like to get a tattoo and where it would probably hurt the most and where it wouldn’t. This is a rather usual consideration and it isn’t that easy to answer because people differ in terms of how they are structured and how they handle pain.

Most people usually agree that the arm is the best place to get a tattoo and the area where you are least likely to experience a great amount of pain. The reason for this is that this is a place that has a lot of muscle before the bones and it tends to absorb the tattooing needle a lot better and thus less pain is felt. The places where you are most likely to experience pain are the erogenous zones and other zones with high nerve concentration or where there is little muscle or fat and which are more exposed to bone such as the ankles.

Some people go for areas which tend to hurt a lot such as the ribcage, but such choices are usually made by people who have a lot of experience as far as getting tattoos is concerned. If it is your first tattoo and you are concerned with pain issues, then you can easily stick to getting tattoos on the fleshier locations if your body such as the arm or the leg. You should not try to think of pain with tattoos and focus more on how the tattoos will look instead.

Where a tattoo will hurt the least is relative to several factors but the less sensitive the skin is, the less a tattoo should hurt. When most people try to describe to another person what getting a tattoo feels like they say it is more irritating than anything else because of the consistent pin pricks. Those experienced in the tattoo industry will say that the more exposed the area of the body is to outside elements, the tougher the skin is and therefore the tattoo will hurt less in those areas.

At other times, the amount of pain which is experienced will be determined by the artist who creates the tattoo. Certain tattoo artists are rather heavy handed and this tends to make the pain a lot more intense, other tattoo artists are rather graceful which makes the experience a pleasurable one.

What one person finds hurtful can be simply annoying to another person. The level of hurt which is experienced will also depends on a persons own tolerance level for pain. Some people are more sensitive to pain than others.

Many have said that the pain involved in getting a tattoo is similar to that of bad sunburn, being stung several times by bees, a bad scrape, but remember that the pain does not last very long at all. How you feel physically will determine how well you handle the tattooing process. If you are not your normal 100% you will feel more discomfort during the tattooing process.

If you are having a bad mental day then it is best to hold off because if you are distracted or aggravated it is likely going to really tick you off once the tattoo gets started. If you are really concerned with pain but want to get a tattoo then ask your artist which places hurt the least when getting a tat. Maybe you will decide to start off somewhere else and get a small one to test it out.
