Apple has always been known for developing trendy and cutting edge electronic consumer products that attract a large number of followers. Already before the release of Apple iPhone in June 2007, guesses have been made widely about the outlook, the specifications and about the general properties of the product. No wonder, as the Apple iPhone seems to be an innovative and novel product, combining the technology of iPods, a revolutionary mobile phone and a handy internet device, as some assert, three separate products in one.
In the early days
Early documentary evidence has shown that the CEO of Apple Steve Jobbs instructed his engineers to design and plan probability of developing a touch scree tablet screen. The plan was to develop a touch screen Apple Tablet PC. But much to the surprise of his audiences in 2003 at a conference he announced that the development of the traditional tablet PC or PDA was not the way forward for Apple.
In January of 2007 Apple announced at a conference their new product, perhaps not surprising when new inventions lie in the sphere of cell phones, and thus, technologies, connected to them. In June of 2007 at the MacWorld Expo Apple announced the release of their Apple iPhone that will handle third party Web applications. Users will be able to access the internet on their iPhones.
Release with further updates
Hundreds of people lined up outside the shops on June 29 2007 when finally Apple iPhones went on sale in the United States so that they could be the first to own the new Apple iPhone. When it was initially released there were only two variations of the iPhone. First with a flash drive of 4GB and second with a flash drive of 8GB with price a range from $499 -$599. The 4Gb iPhone was finally discontinued when the 8GB was the preferred choice of the buyer.
When the price of the Apple iPhone suddenly dropped, as early as September by as much as $200. The popularity of the Apple iPhone was short lived. This attracted a lot of criticism towards Apple as it was thought the sudden drop in price to be unreasonable.
For example, the sales for the first weekend were initially estimated to be somewhere between 200,000 and 700,000 products. But just roughly 145,000 activations were registered for the first weekend.
There was also extensive media exposure of a 300-page bill, after which AT&T makes a transformation in its billing practice. Also when the new Apple iPhone was original out the only contracts accessible to the applicant was a 2 year subscription with AT&T, this offer was inappropriate for everybody.
Apple iPhone was launched in Europe by the end of 2007, in Germany, the United Kingdom and France. However, in Europe, Apple seemed to face legal difficulties if it is to follow its scheme of offering iPhone only through one selected company.
