Deciding on the best affiliate marketing program to promote can sometimes be a challenge. Many new affiliate marketers tend to sign up for as many programs as they can in hopes that the more programs they promote, the more money they’ll get. This is not always true. Since the choices you make when choosing affiliate products is critical to your success, you need to do your homework before choosing affiliate programs. Here are some things to keep in mind.

One of the biggest ways to insure success is to choose affiliate programs that deal with products that you know, understand, and are motivated to sell. If you select a product from an affiliate company because everyone else is selling it or if it is a big fad at the moment, you will be disappointed when people move on to the next big thing, and you are less likely to work hard at promoting a product that you don?t care about.

Choosing quality affiliate programs will go a long way toward getting people to trust you and your recommendations. So, investigate them and their website; contact them to see if they answer your questions in a timely manner. Does their sales letter make you want to purchase their product? Does the company have a good sales process in place? These are all questions you need to research before you make your final decision.

The affiliate product that you are promoting should be a “hot” item. It has to be something that people want and are willing to buy - right now. The more people that want it, the better your sales, and your commissions, will be. Do your research beforehand and you’ll have a more profitable result.

Choose affiliate marketing programs that pay high commissions. Your goal as an affiliate marketer is to make money so choose the higher paying programs to help you meat that goal. It generally takes the same amount of effort to promote a high paying program as it does for a low paying product. Make your promotion efforts count by choosing the programs that will pay you the most. If you are promoting Internet marketing products, the best commission rate runs between 50 to 75 percent. Other niches will usually run a bit less. Some “affiliate stores” have a much lower commission rate but the products themselves are priced quite high.

Look for affiliate programs that have a high conversion rate. You should be able to find this on the company’s website. If the information isn’t there, call or email the company and ask them. You can also join their program and carefully track the results you get from your own promotions. Be sure to target the correct market when you are are testing the campaigns. Drop those programs that aren’t performing well and replace them with programs that have a higher conversion rate.

he affiliate company must provide excellent support. This is especially important for beginner affiliate marketers. Some companies even offer training resources for their new affiliates. These are the best affiliate programs to look for. The affiliate company should also provide pre-written ads of different types and graphical banners and buttons to help the marketer make sales. Be sure that the company has contact information on the site so that you can contact them if you should have a problem.

Do you have time to devote to another affiliate program? If you are already promoting a ton of affiliate programs, adding another one to your list may not be a good idea. You aren’t going to make any money by adding another product to those that you already have if you don’t have the time to promote it.

Have you read the Affiliate Agreement? Are there any “tricks” you should be aware of? For instance, I recently promoted a product, made a sale, and THEN found out I won’t get paid that $100 commission unless I make 8 more sales. Yes, I too, make mistakes!
