Celebrities throughout Hollywood have made the Chihuahua one of the most popular small breed dogs in the world. Unfortunately, this has led to a rise of unscrupulous Chihuahua breeders who run terrible breeding centers known as puppy mills. These puppy mills are churning out hundreds of pups each and every year, and then turning around and selling them to pet stores across the country.

Many pet store owners are unaware of the terrible conditions in which the dogs raised by one of these Chihuahua breeders are kept. The majority of pet store owners actually think that they are buying from a respectable Chihuahua breeder, never knowing that they are actually helping the puppy mills to stay in business. The truth of the matter is that a respectable Chihuahua breeder would never sell a single pup to a pet store. Preferring instead to thoroughly research anyone who requests a pup, in order to make certain that their pups are going to good homes.

This spreading pandemic of dishonest Chihuahua breeder is forcing more and more people to join the fight to end their despicable breeding practices. A Chihuahua breeder that runs a puppy mill generally cares for nothing other than the money that he or she can get from churning out dozens of litters in a year. With Chihuahuas already being so small, the female must usually deliver her pups via cesarean section. Each litter she has deteriorates her body a little more.

Female Chihuahuas, being so small to begin with, often show signs of deteriorating health after each time they give birth to a new litter of pups. The dishonest Chihuahua breeder will attempt to breed each female in their kennel every time she comes into season, often without making sure she gets any medical attention to be sure that she can safely deliver another litter. This leads to the vast majority of pups being born sick and dying.

You can do your part in the battle against the dishonest Chihuahua breeder by simply refusing to purchase any pup from a pet store. The conditions in which pet store animals are forced to live aren’t much better than those in the puppy mills.

Even pet shop owners who claim to only buy pets from respectable breeders need to realize that a real Chihuahua breeder would never sell a pup to a pet store.

An honest Chihuahua breeder would never supply a single puppy to a pet store. They understand that it takes love and patience to care for these little dogs. And they treat them with all the love and respect they deserve.

If you aren’t sure how to find an honest Chihuahua breeder, talk to your vet about some of the Chihuahua breeders that he or she respects and knows. But above all - never buy a pup from a pet store.
